“The workshop was about the inner and outer expression – the things we want to hide on the inside. It asks the who, the why, the what. I discovered I am seeking all the time to discover the joy of life.”

Garrison Green resident Wendy Martin was part of a workshop developed by WP Puppet Theatre called View From the Inside: Courage Journey as part of the larger city-wide arts festival, This is My City. The project asked participants – including those at United Active Living’s Garrison Green community – to create mask-body puppets that express who they are.  > read more

Calgary World Puppetry Day celebration allows young and old to express themselves

metro1Monday’s World Puppetry Day celebration allowed Calgarian Nadia Asad to realize a lifelong dream.

“My friend is making a daughter,” smiled Sonia Bakhtiar, who watched the kids as her friend worked. “She has three boys, so now she’s putting girl clothes on a puppet.”

Meanwhile their kids were expressing themselves through puppet ninjas, and a man made entirely of stickers.

The World Puppetry Day celebration, held by WP Puppet Theatre, encouraged people to create a puppet and add it to one of the chains of puppets set up through the space, all holding hands.
