DIY Puppet Pop Up with Fashion Revolution YYC

WP Puppet Theatre is pleased to support
Fashion Revolution week April 22-26 2020.

This organization believes in a fashion industry that values people, the environment, creativity and profit in equal measure.

Part of valuing environment is repairing our clothes, so our April DIY Puppet Pop Up are a Mouse and a Cat Stuffie puppet that includes button sewing, seam hemming, simple embroidery and more fun with thread!  Thank you Claudia and Barb for this the instructions.

MOUSE STUFFIE PUPPET

Supplies:
  • Fabric piece for body about
    20 cm x 20 cm
  • Needle & embroidery thread
  • Scissors
  • Cotton stuffing
  • Small ziploc snack bag
  • ¼ cup of small pebbles, rice or beans
  • Piece of felt for the ears about 14 cm x 8 cm
  • 2 buttons for the eyes, 1 bead for the nose
  • 2 pipe cleaners for the tail and whiskers
Here is our process:
  • Choose a fabric piece for your body about 10 cm x 10 cm
  • With right sides together fold the square in half so it makes a triangle
  • Using a running stitch, sew up one edge and half of the other edge
  • Turn the body right side out and stuff with cotton stuffing
  • Insert the plastic bag filled with pebbles to give the bottom of the puppet some weight
  •  Stitch up the open side with a hemming stitch
  • Cut out 2 ears from the felt, but keep them joined together at the base of the ear
  • Wind the pipe cleaner around a pencil to make it curly
  • Sew on the bead for a nose
  • Cut the second pipe cleaner into 3 equal pieces
  • Insert the pipe cleaners through the bead nose to make whiskers
  • Sew the ears onto the head of the mouse
  • Sew on the eyes
  • Insert one pipe cleaner into the bottom of the mouse for the tail and sew a couple of stitches to secure it in place
