From the Creator, Kathy:
I have been creating cloth puppets as a hobby for 25 years. My approach is to have fun with the designs and integrate stories and meaning to each piece. I’ve created puppets for a local Head Start program, the Montessori school, and private commissions.
Each puppet is made of recycled fabric and bits and pieces that I’ve collected for years. They are mostly hand sewn with bits glued on so they should be handled with care. They are around 10 to 12 inches long and can come with a thin cotton glove worn under the puppet in order to keep it clean.
The aesthetic of my most recent series is based on the ancient knowledge of our etheric bodies of energy known as chakras. As a yoga teacher, I have studied and practiced with these energy fields and believe that connecting to our centres can benefit our wellbeing. Each puppet represents each of the 7 chakras and each one wears a necklace made of semi precious stones that are known to be beneficial when working with that chakra. These necklaces can be worn as a bracelet! The following are the names of each puppet and the stones they wear:
“Mula” – the root chakra Muladhara. Corresponding colour and stone – red, garnet.
“Svada” – the sacral chakra Svadhishthana. Corresponding colour and stone – orange and carnelian.
“Mani” – the solar plexus chakra Manipura. Corresponding colour and stone – yellow, citrine.
“Ana” – the heart chakra Anahata. Corresponding colour and stone – green, rose quartz.
“Vishu” – Vishuddha the throat chakra. Corresponding stone – turquoise.
“Ajna” – the third eye chakra Ajna. Corresponding stone – lapis lazuli.
“Saha” – the crown chakra Sahasrara. Corresponding stone – clear quartz.
These happy puppets can also be enjoyed just as they are, with no connection to the study of chakras!
