PUPPET POP-UPS (PPU)
What are Puppet Pop-Ups?
Puppet Pop-Ups are puppet making workshops or events lead by WP Puppet Theatre that Pop Up online or in-person. The Puppet Pop-Ups can be pre-registered, drop-by or online DIY. In-person events are held throughout Calgary, Alberta (and the surrounding Calgary area). These Puppet Pop-Up workshops typically happen monthly, with a different theme each time. We will make puppets and do some dramatic sharing and performing too!
These puppet pop-up workshops actively promote all family members—youngsters and elders alike—in creating art and drama together. We create these projects with the intent that individuals of all ages will participate, and scale the projects so that everyone can make something. We encourage everyone from age four and up to join us! Please note that children and teens must participate with an adult.

BEHIND PUPPET POP-UPS
WP Puppet Theatre subscribes to the Reggio Emilia education philosophy, which values children as strong, capable and resilient; rich with wonder and knowledge. Every child brings with them deep curiosity and potential, and this innate curiosity drives their interest to understand their world and their place within it.
PAST PUPPET POP-UPS
Some of our past Puppet Pop-Ups (PPUs) are in the pictures above! In order they are: Animal Mask body-puppets (at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks), Rat Stuffie Puppet- see the video here, an adorable puppeteer in training with her Moving Mouth puppet (at Market Collective). The fourth picture is a fantastically funny Elephant Puppet that you can watch reacting to Wendy reading the story “The Blind Man and the Elephant” in this video, a Perfect Platypus Puppet that you can watch performing here, and Dragon and Unicorn Folding Paper Puppets (at Pride Festival)!
Unicorn & Dragon paper puppets as well as the Moving Mouth puppets, were designed by Sara McNeil.
